From Quality to Care: The Real Reason We Don’t Pierce With Outside Jewelry

From Quality to Care: The Real Reason We Don’t Pierce With Outside Jewelry

At Identity Body Piercing, we’re all about self-expression, safety, and high-quality craftsmanship. We love that our clients have unique tastes and often bring in their own jewelry ideas — but when it comes to piercing, we have a strict policy: we do not pierce with outside jewelry. Here’s why that policy exists and how it ensures the safest, most beautiful results for your new piercing.

1. It’s All About Safety and Sterility

When you’re getting a new piercing, sterility isn’t optional — it’s everything. Every piece of jewelry we use comes sterilized in a medical-grade autoclave and is traceable back to its certified manufacturer. Jewelry brought in from outside sources (even if it looks clean or unused) can’t be guaranteed sterile, and once that chain of sterility is broken, there’s no safe way to restore it. Using non-sterile jewelry could lead to infections, allergic reactions, or piercing rejection, and we’d never put your health at risk.

2. Jewelry Quality Standards Matter

We only pierce with implant-grade materials — typically ASTM-F136 titanium, solid 14k–18k gold, or niobium — all verified by trusted, professional body jewelry brands like BVLA, Buddha Jewelry Organics, Tawapa, Tether, and Moll Doll Designs.

Unfortunately, many outside jewelry pieces are not made to these safety standards. They might contain nickel, poor surface finishes, or plating that can break down inside the body — all of which can cause irritation, prolonged healing, or worse.

3. The Perfect Fit Is Essential

Every piercing requires precise jewelry sizing — post length, diameter, gauge, and style — based on your anatomy and the location of the piercing. Jewelry that’s even slightly too short or too long can cause swelling, migration, or embedding. Our piercers are trained to select the correct size and shape to ensure comfort, safety, and proper healing. Outside jewelry can’t always be measured or verified to fit correctly, which is another reason we can’t safely use it.

4. Warranty, Accountability, and Experience

We stand behind every piercing we perform — from the jewelry to the aftercare. When you’re pierced with jewelry from our studio, we know exactly where it came from, how it was sterilized, and that it meets our professional standards. That means if you ever have a question or concern, we can properly troubleshoot and support you. When jewelry comes from elsewhere, we can’t offer that same level of care or guarantee your experience.

5. You Deserve the Best

We understand that jewelry is personal and sentimental — and we’d love to help you wear your favorite piece safely. If you have outside jewelry you’d like to use after your piercing is fully healed, we can absolutely take a look, evaluate the piece, and help you insert it safely once the tissue is ready.Your body deserves the best materials, the cleanest process, and the most experienced hands. That’s what we’re here for — to make sure every piercing at Identity Body Piercing is as safe, professional, and stunning as it can be.
